He died serving in the Confederate Army of typhoid fever, at the Confederate States Hospital in Petersburg, VA.
His oldest son, Theodorick Angel served with him in the War and another son, Joseph W. also served and died in the War. Joseph died in Richmond, VA. in April 1865 after being wounded in the shoulder at Fort Stedman, near Petersburg, Va.
