Mildred Arvig was my Grandmother. She was an amazing woman who in a mans world set out to succeed and did just that. In June of 1928 Mildred Arvig purchased the Melrose telephone company.
A woman alone and her five children, three sons and two daughters set about to bring the modern world of lights and telephone to the farmers of Minnesota. She with her children strung electric and phone wire all over rural Minnesota.
My mother as a child rode in the back of a pick up truck being the gopher for the boys and her older sister. This was back when women in business were not readily excepted and had to fight their way. Bank loans were hard to get and being taken seriously was hard earned. She earned the respect of the business community and built a reputation as an Icon of her time.
She died when I was quite young but I knew that her work ethic and her love for God was the pillar of her strength. When I look at my Mother my Son and my own grandchildren I see her in them. She will always be the woman I aspire to be. Her little company that brought modern lights and telephone to farmers has NOT surpassed her imagination, and her genius. She did it all!
