Ken was born on August 2, 1920 to Joseph and Anna (Miller) Kruchten. He was united in marriage to Mary A. Johnson on December 7, 1943 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in St. Cloud. Ken was a Captain in the U. S. Army and graduated from General Command School, ranking 1st in his class.

As a young man his first business venture was raising and selling sheep on the family farm. He went to work in St. Cloud at Powell Hardware and advanced quickly to management. His career in the hardware business took Ken and his family to Duluth where he worked for Kelly Howe Thompson which later merged with Marshall Welles Distributors as National Sales Manager.

When that company sold, he moved his family back to St. Cloud and went to work for Royal Melrose Granite Company as Sales Manager. Cold Spring Granite Company bought the Royal Melrose operation and Ken was promoted to Vice President of Sales and Marketing, a job that he retired from at the age of 55.

Ken was also a Rotarian and enjoyed Rotary Club meetings and involvement. During his business career, he held various official positions with the Rotary Club. He was also a member of St. Paul's Parish and other civic and religious organizations.

Ken went on to pursue his passion for working with people and studied to become an Ordained Deacon in the St. Cloud Diocese. Ken was one of the first three Deacons in the diocese being ordained in 1978. He continued in his ministry the rest of his life as he worked on various committees along with Diaconate duties in the diocese in many parishes. Ken, along with his wife Mary, helped to create many of the structures by which the Diaconate community operates within today. Many of Ken and Mary's dearest friends were made during their ministry. His work with the elderly and hospice care brought many people into his life that he so enjoyed.

Ken was a devoted family man who worked hard to raise and provide for his eight children, not only a secure home, but to teach them his deep seated beliefs of humility and love for God and fellow man.

He is survived by his children, Kenneth Patrick (Marcy) of Marco Island, FL, Mary Margaret of St. Cloud, Michael (Rosemary) of Rockford, IL, Anna (Gary Haughtaling) of Phoenix, AZ, Joseph of Dominican Republic, Paul (Maureen) of Alexandria, Peter (Jennifer) of Rockford, IL, Lurana and partner Carrie Brown of Toronto, Ontario, Canada; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; sisters, Virgina Feneis of St. Cloud and Sylvia Blem of Minneapolis.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary; one brother and several sisters.
