Herbert Ralph Bean, 77, of rural Dakota City died Friday, June 20, 2008, at a Fremont, Neb., care center.
Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City, with the Rev. Nancy Leonard of St. Paul's United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Dakota City Cemetery, with military rites. Visitation will be 9 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home.
Herbert was born Feb. 26, 1931, in Sioux City, the son of Rex V. and Ethel I. (Stewart) Bean. He was an U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was employed in construction with various construction companies, later at Wilson Trailer Company and retired from the Sioux City Foundry.
He was of the Lutheran faith. He was a life member of the American Legion Cownie Church Post 307. He enjoyed fishing, was a trophy-winning pool player and enjoyed visiting with family and all of his friends.
Survivors include a sister and her husband, Carolyn and Jim Starks of Dakota City; a brother and his wife, Richard and Jan Bean of Bremen, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, Edith Bean; and a nephew, Robert Starks.
Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Bean, Steven, Stuart and Brandon Starks, Chuck Sellers and Todd Waldner.
