Mrs. Jimmie Lee Dixon, 89, died Friday night (Sept. 19, 2003) at Baptist Village after an extended illness.

She is a native of Milltown, but she has lived in Waycross since 1942. She worked as a welder for the shipyard in Brunswick during World War II. Following the war, she trained to be a nurse at Ware County Hospital. During the 1950s, she was employed as a nurse for the pediatrician, Dr. Harold Mickey. Since working with Dr. Mickey, she has also been employed as a nurse for the Lake Okeechobee Hospital, Baptist Village and Memorial Hospital. She worked with the Slash Pine Development Authority, and was a charter member of Emerson Park Baptist Church.

She is the daughter of the late George W. Ward and Fannie Rudd Ward. She is the wife of the late Shennie ''Sam'' Dixon. She is also preceded in death by her two sons, Ralph E. Dixon and Lee L. Dixon, and a son-in-law, Joe Cornelius.

She is survived by her daughter, Evelyn D. Cornelius of Manor; five sons, Thomas L. Dixon (wife Louise) of Augusta, George Dixon (wife Josephine) of Jacksonville, FL, Billy R. Dixon of Kingsland, Jimmie A. Dixon (wife Kay) of Waycross, and Kenneth Hugh Dixon of Waycross; two daughter-in-laws, Pat Dixon of Augusta, and Dorothy Dixon of Waycross; two brothers, Orland G. Ward of Valdosta, and Randall Ward of Jacksonville, FL; a sister-in-law, Delphine Ward of Jacksonville, FL; 26 grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A funeral service will be conducted 3 p.m. Monday (Sept. 22, 2003) at the Music Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Kettle Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends 7 until 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
