FBI Special Agent Coler was shot and killed at the Ogala Sioux Indian Reservation when him and another agent attempted to serve a warrant for robbery and assault.
Leonard Peltier, a Native American activist and member of the American Indian Movement, was eventually convicted of the crime and has been the center of a controversy for many years as to whether he committed the two murders or whether some of his fellow activists did.
