Howard Pickney was a "gunslinger". Working as a cowhand, on the evening of August 28, 1904 in Silver City, Grant Co., NM, he shot three men, killing two, Sheriff Kilburn and Deputy Sheriff Perfecto Rodriquez. Severly wounded was Pat Nunn, Howard's forman. Fast and accurate with guns, Howard as a product of a life shared by his father and brothers. Howard was tried in 1905, convicted and sentenced to fifty-four years. He escaped from jail with the help of his family* and later went to Brazil, married and had 7 children. Later he was pardoned and returned to the US.
