Gordon R. Miller, 7/14/1922 - 1/8/2011, Resident of Los Altos. In loving memory of Gordon Miller, age 88, who entered into eternal rest at his home in Los Altos, after a lengthy illness. As a devoted husband, father and grandfather he is survived by his wife of 57 years Rosemary B. Miller, his son John Miller of Santa Clara, his daughter Ellen Miller of Campbell and grandchildren, Jackie Miller, John Miller, Andy Miller and Melissa Bucher. Gordon Miller was born in Minneapolis, MN.then moved to Berkeley, Ca. where he graduated high school and had already attended 1 year of college at UC Berkeley and a year at MIT before being sent over seas to the European theater in World War II. He graduated from UC Berkeley in 1947, with a degree in Civil Engineering. Gordon had an esteemed career working for the City of Berkeley, The Office of Architects and Engineers on the Berkeley campus and a 25 year career with the City of Sunnyvale. For the City of Sunnyvale he served first as Asst. Director of Public Works then as Dir. of Community Development and later as Dir. of Redevelopment before retiring in 1979. Later he was offered a position with the City of Los Altos Hills as acting City Manager/City Engineer before leaving the professional arena. He was well known for his outstanding integrity and principles. His interests included the ASCE and membership in the SIRS branch #5. As an orchard owner he was an avid rancher, gardener and excellent wood craftsman. Graveside services to be held at 11am on Jan. 12th, 2011 at Alta Mesa Cemetery located at 695 Arastradero Road, Palo Alto, CA 94306.
