Virginia L. Lau Gardner, 87, of Harrisburg, passed away Saturday, September 10, 2011, in the Community General Hospital, Harrisburg.
Born in Philadelphia on November 5, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Mary Lau.
Virginia retired from the Harrisburg School District where she was a school secretary. She was a graduate of the former John Harris High School. Virginia was a member of the Paxton United Methodist Church, Harrisburg, where she was active with its ladies group, making Easter eggs and helping with dinners. She was also a member of the Pennsylvania Retired Teachers Association, the Secretary Association, American Business Women's Association, the Susquehanna Choral Group, and the Red Hat Society. Virginia was a former member of the Lions Club Auxiliary of Harrisburg. She enjoyed playing cards especially bridge at the Rutherford House.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, George K. Gardner, on September 15, 1986.
She is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Ann Osman of Harrisburg; one son, Dr. George K. Gardner, Jr. of Scarborough, ME; six grandchildren, Christine, Aaron, Jennifer, Kristen, Matthew and Benjamin; and eleven great grandchildren, Nick, Alex, Isabella, Zachary, Allen, Christa, Sophie, Stella, Aubrey, Jacob and Elijah.
Funeral services will be held Friday, September 16, 2011, at 11 a.m., in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, with The Rev. Bonnie L. Ort, her pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Lower Paxton Township. Friends are invited to the viewing Friday, in the funeral home from 10 a.m., until time of the services.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent to the American Heart/Stroke Association, Capital Region, 1019 Mumma Road, Wormleysburg, PA 17043.
