Grant Arnold Jones son of Daniel Dudley Jones and Daisy Eleanor Huber, was born in Goodyear, Maricopa County, Arizona, the first the first grandchild of his Grandfather and Grandmother Huber. He was blessed by his Granfather Arnold Casper Huber, August 14 1921 at Chandler, Maricopa, Arizona.
When he was three years old we moved to Tucson, Arizona. Here he received a Patriarchal Blessing from William D. Kuhre, March 29, 1926, When he was but five years old. He started to school at Tuscon in September 1927. Then in November of that same year we moved to Redmesa, Colorado.
Grant was baptized June 24, 1929 in a large irrigation ditch in back of our place in Redmesa, by his father, and confirmed by Elihu K Ball(a Patriarch) on Jme 4, 1929.
He graduated from the Eighth Grade in May, 1936. The School Board took the graduates to Mesa Verde for their graduating exercises.
Grant was ordained Deacon Ausust 6, 1933, a Teacher 28 June 1936, a Priest 4 July 1937, and an Elder 30 June 1940 all by his Father.
In the fall of l937 he went to Mesa, Arizona to stay with his Grandfather and Grandmother Huber, and went to the Mesa Union High School. He came back when school was out and went to schcol in Kline. Grant went to Tucson, Arizora, his Senior year in High School and lived with his older brother, Lamar. He graduated from the Ampitheater High School in Tucson 28 May 1941. After graduating from High School he attended school at Fort Lewis Colorado one winter.
That Decenber, 1941, the United States became involved with war on Japan and later Germany and the following July l942. Grant was inducted in the United States Army. He was first sent to a camp Colorado, and then to Camp Wolters in Texas for his basic training. From there he was sent to Fort Ord in California while there he spent Christmas with his Aunt Pearl Haws and family.
His company was sent to Camp Rucker in Alabama, from there to Nashville Tennessee for special training then back to Camp Rucker. From her he was sent to Camp Butner in North Carolina, then to West Virginia for more special training rhen back to Camp Butner again.
In May 1944 he sent to New York and then over seas to England. He was sent to battle in France July 1, 1944, where he was wounded with shrapnel in both legs and one arm. He was flown to England and kept in the hospital for over two months, and then he was sent back to the front lines about 22 October 1944.
Grant was in Patton's Third Army when he was killed. He was in France for Christmas Day of 1944 for a rest period, and wrote his last letter home on Christmas Day. He was in Company A of the 137th Infantry, 35th Division, His serial Number was 37352142. January 1, 1945, Grant was killed in the Battle of the Bulge at Livar Champs, Belgium.
His body was buried overseas untill the war was over. His body was returned to Mesa Arizona as was his request shopuld he loose his life in battle. He was buried in Mesa City Cemetery in Mesa, Arizona on 2 Jun 1949
