d/o Edward Emmet and Josephine Clair Starkey
Married Omer Vivian "Dick" Ewing on Mar 31, 1908

Bernice was one of eight children born to Edward and Josephine Starkey. She had one sister, Pearl and six brothers, Herbert, Lee, Fay, Ole, Herman and Bernard. They lived in Sylvan Township in Richland Co, Wisconsin.
She married Omer Vivian Ewing March 31,1908 in Richland Center, Wis. The young couple farmed in Goose Creek,Sylvan Township. From 1935-1947 they farmed in Ontario, Wis. and lastly, in 1947, the family moved to rural Fountain City, Wis.
Bernice was a hard working farm wife and worked a team of horses along side Omer. She worked in the fields but refused to learn to drive a tractor. She raised chickens and sold several crates of eggs weekly to help support her large family. She always had a huge garden and loved morning glories and hollyhocks. She was knowledgeable in the use of native plants and made many a poultice for family aches and injuries.
Bernice and Omer had 13 children: Vesta, Myron, Violet,
Cleone, Clinton, Ava, Clyde, Linden, Virgil (Lyle), Eileen, George, Charles and Beverly.
The couple retired from farming in 1957. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in March 1958 with a huge family gathering. Omer died in Oct. Bernice and son Charles moved to Fountain City. In her later years she lived with son George's family and spent summers traveling and visiting the rest of her family.
She loved fishing, camping, doing jigsaw puzzles and playing dominoes and canasta.
Bernice was ill the last weeks of her life and spent most of her time in bed. She had a goal to live to be 90 years old, as long as she thought her mother, Josephine lived. The morning of her 90th birthday, Sept. 29, 1979, she got up and dressed and enjoyed her birthday with her family. She died 2 weeks later, Oct. 15, 1979.
She was preceded in by husband Omer; children, Cleone, Clinton, Virgil Lyle, Charles, Vesta, and Myron.
