Reo DeWayne Tanner
Reo DeWayne Tanner, 69, a resident of Rowena, died at a local care facility on Friday, Sept. 28, 2007.
He was born in Burley, Idaho on May 4, 1938, the sixth of nine children to Lee D. and Reva Y. (Young) Tanner. He was raised in Cascade Locks and Hood River, where he attended school. The family then moved to Bend so he could attend school for body and fender work.
He married Bertha Joy Lindner in Stevenson, Wash., on Aug. 8, 1960. He worked in Cascade Locks at the Sawmill and for the railroad, but was well known for his body and fender work. The family moved to The Dalles in the mid-1970s. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, driving up in the mountains, photography and serenading with his voice while he played the guitar.
He is survived by his wife, Bertha Tanner, Rowena; two daughters, Tammy Sliney and her husband Tom, Bend; and Annette Hamilton, Springfield; his son, Mark Tanner, Salem; two brothers, Wilford Tanner and Wendel Tanner; five sisters, Ida Lea Calmer, Elaine Nickell, Leah Peffer, Lila Miller and Billie Jean Conner; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Ione Hamlin.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2007 at 2 p.m. at Life In Christ Center in The Dalles (Assembly of God) with Pastor Jepson officiating.
Private cremation held at The Dalles Win-Quatt Crematory with Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
