Lizzie's maiden name has many spelling variations. A son, Robert, gave the information on her death certificate and spelled it McGlothing. Descendents of her brother now use McGlothlin. I place McLaughlin in all of my documents as this is the way her father spelled it on his Civil War pension documents. Lizzie was a daughter of William McLaughlin. My mother-in-law, Loula (Arms) Carpenter, said her mother's mother's name was Margaret York. (Lizzie's son, Robert, informant on her death certificate, erroneously stated that her mother was Maggie Harp). The daughter of Lizzie's sister, Adalade (McLaughlin) Davidson, was the informant on her mother's death certificate and said correctly that her mother's mother was Maggie York. Lizzie's father was a Corporal for M Company, 8th Tennessee Cavalry on the Union side during the Civil War. This was cause for many heated arguments between her father & father-in-law, Newton Mulkey Arms, who had been a Confederate soldier. Lizzie lost her father at an early age as he died in 1898. She and her siblings were left to support her ailing mother and a large family. Lizzie's siblings were Edward, Horace, Adalade, Mary, Belle, Blue, Roxie, & Robert. All of Lizzie's siblings died young except for Edward. Blue, Roxie, & Robert lived to adulthood but died in their youth. The rest died as children. Shortly after her mother's death in 1906, Lizzie left Tennessee for Oklahoma with her husband, Oscar Caleb Arms whom she had married in Willow Grove, Clay County Tennessee May 28, 1905. Lizzie & Oscar had a large family of children. Their names were Walter Franklin, Robert Lee, Charles, Bedford, Carl, Verci Maude, Stella May, Mary Bell, Raymond, Chester, Loula Dee, Laura, & Frank Arms. There is also some contoversy over the spelling of Lizzie's middle name but as it is spelled Beath on her death certificate as well as her tombstone I am suppossing this is the way she spelled it.
