Mary Caroline Hendrix (Hendricks) Bell was born the last day of February 1835, in Bulloch County, Georgia. Her tombstone reads February 29. (There was no February 29 in 1835, but there was in 1836.) The daughter of Robert McGinty "Mack" Hendrix and Sophia "Sophie" Aaron Hendrix, Mary Hendrix Bell had seven siblings, including a sister, Lucinda Hendrix Bell. Lucinda married William H. Bell, and Mary married his brother James Daniel Bell, and they had eleven children: David Clayton Bell, Sr., Joel Henry Bell, Wiley M. Bell, James Israel Bell, Andrew P. Bell, Emily Sophia Bell, Daniel Mack Bell, Mary Caroline "Mamie" Bell, Martha Elizabeth Bell Braid, Moses F. Bell, and Joseph Columbus Bell. She died April 5, 1908 in Bryan County at age 73 and is buried in Little Creek Cemetery in Bryan County. Her ancestry was English.

Thanks so much to my grandmother Nevada McClelland Bell (whose husband was Mary's grandson), Bell family researchers, and various census rolls (especially the 1850 Bulloch County, Georgia census) for much of this information. Any errors, however, are mine alone. Please go to the "edit" link on this site with any corrections or additions.
