AUGUSTA, Ga. - Alpheus Al Howard Glasco of Augusta passed away on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center after a long illness. Al was born on November 7, 1950 in West Chester, Pennsylvania, the second of five children of Gloria Hitchen Glasco and Alpheus Henry Glasco. Al graduated from Coatesville Area Senior High School in 1969 and began his nursing career with the Veterans Administration which would span 40 years. Al enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1974, and served as a Medical Services Specialist for 20 years and was a veteran of the Vietnam War, as well as Operations Desert Storm and Desert Shield. He served tours of duty in Japan, Panama, and Turkey, as well as many installations in the continental United States. During his military career he also earned an Associate in Applied Science degree in Allied Health Sciences in 1993 and an Associate of Science in Nursing in 2000. After retiring from the Air Force with an Honorable Discharge 1992, Al resumed his studies and completed a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and served with the Veterans Administration as a Registered Nurse until he retired in 2011.

Al is survived by his wife, Hilda (Sorrento), and his children, Andre McMullen (Auri), Anika McMullen (Jerome), Monique Flynn (Corey), Shani Rashid (Jibril), Michael Glasco, Aisha Mitchell (Michael), Robert Glasco, and Bryan Glasco, his sisters Elvira Gibbs (Zeke), Stephanie Smith-Dowridge, Laverne Williams (Ali Khan), and many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a host of friends and extended family members.

Al was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Dorinda Glasco, his son Norman Glasco and his treasured dog Sparky.
