Alma Jean Parkhurst was born Aug. 10, 1926, in Welch, Okla., to Tom and Rena (Langley) Parkhurst. At a young age the family moved to Fairland, where Jean attended school and graduated in 1944. She married Charles C. Venis on Jan. 11, 1948, at the First Baptist Church in Fairland. After residing in Fairland for four years, they moved their family to Miami. Jean worked at Milner-Berkey, Belks, Kemps and Walker Drug Store in Miami, for many years and later cashiered at the Townsman Restaurant. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Miami, and the United Methodist Women Eve Circle Group. For many years when Jean's daughters were young she volunteered as a Girl Scout Leader and was active in PTA and was a homeroom mother. Jean's favorite time was hosting her family on holidays and birthdays and spending time with her friends, especially playing cards and in earlier years, bowling.
