John Lloyd Campbell was a graduate of the US Naval Academy in the class of 1954.
After graduation he served in a series of ships before Pentagon shore duty in Naval intelligence, then USNPG School, 1959-1961. Served in USS Topeka (CLG-8) 1961-1963. Then DCA Alaska and NAS Seattle. Diagnosed with multiple scelerosis and medically retired Dec 1, 1964. He went to work for UNIVAC and then a number of Aerospace think tanks and Ryan Aeronautical. On medical advice hs retired again. In 1972 moved to Waco, TX. In 1979 he took his MS Degree in Computer Science and did Doctoral Degree work at Texas A&M. He opened an Apple computer store in Waco. In 1981 he started writing computer books concerning operating systems, hardware programming, applications, etc. A dozen books in total. His sight failed, legally blind, and on July 2, 1985, he retired again. Taught CS undergraduate college courses 1985-1990, then retired for the last time.
