Ted Lincoln Alford, 87, of Columbus, Ga., Panama City Beach, Fla. and Highlands, N.C., died Sunday, April 25, 2010 at his home in Bay Point.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, April 30, 2010 at St. Paul United Methodist Church with Dr. Buddy Cooper officiating. Private entombment will follow in Parkhill Cemetery according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, Ga. The family will receive friends Thursday, April 29, 2010 from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Alford was born Oct. 3, 1922 in Columbus, Ga. the son of the late Seals Myrick Alford and the late Lena Simmerly Alford. He was instrumental in development of home building in the 1950's and developing large subdivisions, then the outskirts of Columbus, now the center of Columbus. He also developed the Beachcomer By the Sea and Driftwood Motels in Panama City Beach.
Mr. Alford was a friend and mentor to many and will be missed. He was a member of St Paul United Methodist Church, Columbus Country Club, Green Island Country Club, and Cullasaja Club in Highlands, N.C. He was a 1942 graduate of Columbus High and attended Gordon Military Academy in Barnesville, Ga.
Mr. Alford was an entrepreneur with great vision of the real estate market in Georgia, Alabama and Florida. Since his early twenty's, continuing through out his life he NEVER RETIRED always planning new projects. Among many of his successful ventures included single home and commercial development, most recently the Lincoln Center in Panama City, Fla.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters, Bill Alford, Laurie Alford Psalmonds, Dorothy Alford Eisiminger, and Bob Alford.
Survivors include wife, Lynda Merritt Alford; three daughters, Dianne Alford Estes and her husband, Gordon of Columbus, Lou Alford Pickle and her husband, Lindsey of Marietta, Ga. and Sally Alford Andrews and her husband, Bob of Columbus; grandchildren, Thad Estes and his wife, Allison, Lyndee Daffin and her husband. Alan, Jennifer Dykes and her husband, Tra, Lindsey M. Pickle, Jr and wife, Melanie, Laura Pickle Strovinskas and her husband, Chad, Leslie Ann Pickle Bates and her husband, Mark, Bonnie Zisholtz and her husband, Todd, and Sara Jewell and her husband, Chance; great-grandchildren, Mobley Estes, Sanders Estes, Hayes Dykes, Grayson Dykes, Chapman Dykes, Lindsey M. Pickle, III, William Carson Strovinskas, Collin Alford Strovinskas, Cayden Grace Strovinskas, Morgan Light, Madison Light, Willie Andrews, and Sadie Jewell.
