AT REST
Olevia J. Capehart was born at New Haven, West Virginia,
February 23, 1844: was married to Jefferson Siegrist of
New Haven, in 1860, who died in 1914. Mrs. Siegrist died
at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. C. Reiser, in Logan
Kansas, October 29, 1923, at the age of 79 years, 8 months, and 6 days. To this union were born 17 children, two dying in infancy, Mrs. Ida Hughes who died near Logan in 1901, and E. E. Siegrist who died at Clarksburg, West Virginia, in 1921. Thirteen are still living and all but two were present at the funeral. They are: W. J. Siegrist of North Bend, Oregon; Earl O. of St. Louis, MO; Clyde of Hill City, Kansas; Lonnie of Bogue; Floyd of Simpson, Kansas; Joe of Phillipsburg; John of Healy, Kansas; Mrs. Wilma Smith of Prairie View, and (???, ????) and, Artie, Mrs. J. C. Reiser, and Mrs. Carrie Smith of Logan. Seventy-one grandchildren and forty-nine great-grandchildren, besides a host of friends, are left to mourn her loss. She came to Kansas in 1886 and has made her home in Phillips county ever since. She has been a member of the U. B. church since childhood.
During her long period of illness she spoke of the hope
of the resurection and her willingness to go. The funeral
services were held from the Methodist church Wednesday,
October 31. Rev R. J. Wallace of Hill City, assisted by
Rev. Mitchel of Logan, condusted the funeral service. The
text was from Job 5:26 "Thou shalt come to thy grave in a
full age, like a shock of corn cometh on his season".
By her request six of her sons were pall bearers. The
body was laid to rest in the Logan cemetery.
(The two unreadable names should be Sherd and Ed - MRC)
