Ella Petersen, 87, Luck, died March 15, 2004, at the United Pioneer Home.
Ella was born on Nov. 10, 1916, in Tyler, Minn., to Frode and Johanna Kruse. She attended Indian Grove Country School and high school in Tyler, Minn. After a bout with tuberculosis, she moved to Palo Alto, Calif., to live near her sister, Martha. While there, she worked as a nanny for several wealthy families. In Palto Alto, she met her husband, Hjalmer Petersen. Hjalmer's brother, Vagner, was married to her sister, Martha. Ella and Hjalmer were married on May 28, 1939, in the Danish Community of Solvang, Calif.
In 1940, Hjalmer and Ella moved to their farm, west of Luck. She became an active member in the West Denmark Lutheran Church. Hjalmer and Ella had three children, Allen, Gary and Ramona. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and sewing. Ella worked at Stokley Canning Company in Frederic and the United Pioneer Home in Luck. Following Hjalmer's death in 1981, she moved to the Village of Luck. She was active in the senior citizens center, avidley serving her food.
Ella was preceded in death by her parents, Frode and Johanna Kruse; husband, Hjalmer; and brother, Arnold.
She is survived by her children, Allan (Beverly) Petersen, Gary (Jiana) Petersen and Romana Tretsven (Allen Tricker); 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Martha Petersen; brothers, Almer (Betty) Kruse and Vern (Emily) Kruse; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral service was held on Friday, March 19, at the West Denmark Lutheran Church in rural Luck. Vistation was at the church prior to funeral. Interment was in the West Denmark Cemetery following the funeral.
