Thelma M. (Rosie) Thorne, 101, of Parkersburg passed away Friday November 10, 2006 at Camden Clark Memorial Hospital after a short illness. She was born October 16, 1905 at Peniel, Roane County, WV, the daughter of the late Peter H. Milhoan and Lillie Maude Fields Milhoan.

Thelma graduated from Parkersburg High School where she played basketball. She worked at the Vitrolite Plant in Vienna, WV. Later she and her late husband, John Cecil Thorne, Sr., took over his father's general store, A.W. Thorn and Co. in Elizabeth, WV; operating the store for several years until their retirement. After the death of her late husband she worked a short time at Roberts General Store in Elizabeth.

She loved and wrote some poetry, loved gardening, quilting, worked cross word puzzles, was an avid N.B.A. basketball fan and also enjoyed a variety of other sports, too. She loved family and friends in both Elizabeth and Parkersburg. She attended Elizabeth Baptist Church in Elizabeth, attended St. Pauls United Methodist Church after moving to Parkersburg in 191. She was a long time and active member of the Elizabeth Womans Club.

She is survived by one son John Cecil Thorne, Jr. and his wife Delores Ann of Parkersburg; one sister Sara Fields Haas and her husband Ernest of Fairfield, CA; a son-in-law Ward Wilson of Parkersburg; five grandchildren Barbara K. Williams and children of Parkersburg, Mike Wilson and his wife Ann and children of Newark, OH, Roger L. Thorne of Parkersburg, Phillip B. Thorne and his wife Vicki and children of Mooresville, NC, and Joseph Craig Thorne and children of Sherrills Ford, NC; twelve great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter Sarah Kathryn Wilson; four sisters, Carrie Edna Ashcraft, Alma Grace McDonough, Leah Evelyn Maupin, and Wilda Billie Brazell; and an infant granddaughter Kathryn Ann Thorne.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday November 14th at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg with Reverends William Calhoun and Rick Brown officiating. Burial will follow at K of P Cemetery in Elizabeth. Visitation will be 3-7 PM Monday and one hour prior to the service.
