Tractor Accident Takes Life of Edward J. Bowles

KOOSKIA--- Rites were held Monday for Edward J. Bowles, 68, who was killed April 9 when a tractor he was operating on a steep hillside on Kidder Ridge overturned and pinned him underneath.

Mr. Bowles; a farmer and cattleman, had been tilling a field on his 160-acre ranch. The accident happened 500 yards from the Bowles home. His wife said she heart him cry out when the tractor turned over, but trees obscured her view.

She called Eldon Agee, a neighbor, and Mrs. Doyle Pfefferkorn, her daughter, to help.

Mr. Bowles was born at Silver City, Idaho, Nov. 16, 1890. He came with his parents to settle on a Kidder Ridge farm in July, 1905.

On Nov. 10, 1923, he married Ethel May Dinwiddle at Clarkston.

Mr. Bowles also served as a packer for big game hunters and did seasonal work for the forest service. He was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows.

Survivors included his wife; two sons, Edward Jr., of Arizona and Burrill of Kooskia; two daughters, Mrs. Pfefferkorn and Mary Lou Bowles, Kidder Ridge; three brothers, Frank of Lowell, Arthur of Lewiston, Charles of Pendleton; two sisters, Mrs. Fred Crepo and Mrs. Wesley Horsey of Klamath Falls.

Rev. R. J. Kennedy, pastor of the First Baptist church, Grangeville, officiated at the services in the Trenary Funeral Home, Kooskia. Hymns were offered by Mrs. Ed. Gilroy and Mrs. Miles Engle, accompanied by Mrs. Elmer Parseil.

Pallbearers were Milo Booth, Albert Schroeder, Eldon Agee, Truman Tibbett, Dorrence Pfefferkorn and Morris Potter.

The Kooskia lodge of the IOOF conducted committal services in Pine Grove cemetery. (Idaho County Free Press, Grangeville, Idaho, Thursday, April 16, 1959)
