Ruth Ella Gillam McLemore, of Midland, went to live with her Heavenly Father on Thursday, December 22, 2005.
Ruth was born in Birmingham, Alabama, June 14, 1929. She grew up in Big Spring, Texas where she graduated from Big Spring High School in 1946. From there, Ruth attended college at Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas, and later re-located to Midland, Texas. She had two children, Cheryl and David, whom she loved with all her heart and was always very proud. Ruth was a professional secretary with several oil companies here in Midland and at the time of her retirement was with Conoco Oil Co. In the early 1960’s she enjoyed teaching Sunday School at First Baptist Church where she was a member for 45 years. Everyone that knew her will say that Ruth was elegant, smart, funny, and immensely compassionate. Her greatest joy in life was caring for her children and grandchildren. Ruth’s love, compassion, and laughter will be greatly missed by all those who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her mother, father, and her brother, Jim Hobbs.
Ruth is survived by her husband, Wayne McLemore of Midland, TX; daughter, Cheryl McLemore and her husband, John, of Odessa, TX; son, David Gillam of Dallas, TX; stepson, John Wayne McLemore and his wife, Kathy, of Gardendale, TX; sisters, Martha Crittenden and her husband, Morris, of Big Spring, TX; Lela Phillips and her husband, Bob, of Michigan; Mary McCracken and her husband, Mel, of Michigan; three grandchildren, Iva, Amber, and Caleb, two step-grandchildren, Kristy and Nathaniel, and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Funeral services have been scheduled for 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 27, 2005 at First Baptist Church of Midland. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home, 801 Andrews Hwy. Midland, Texas 79701 (432) 683-5555.
