Funeral services for Clara Margarette Harris, 79, of Athens, formerly of Irving, are scheduled for 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 8, 2011, at Hiett's LyBrand Funeral Home Chapel in Wills Point. Burial will follow at White Rose Cemetery.
Clara passed away March 5, 2011, in Tyler.
Clara Margarette Swaffar was born in Tipton, Okla., on Nov. 21, 1931, to the late Walter Lee and Willie Ann (Huckaby) Swaffar. She later moved to Lewisville, where she graduated from Lewisville High School.
She met and married Glyn Otis Harris, and they made their home in Irving, and raised their two sons, Michael and Robert. Clara and Glyn later moved to Athens, and he preceded her in death.
Clara worked as an operator for the telephone company and for Crum and Foster Insurance Company in Dallas, before becoming a homemaker. She was a member of Landmark Baptist Church in Athens.
She is preceded in death by her parents, as well as, her husband, Glyn Otis Harris; son, Michael Glyn Harris; and brothers, John Robert Swaffar and Walter Laverne Swaffar.
Clara is survived by son, Robert Alan Harris and wife, Kim of Arlington; grandsons, Christopher Harris and wife, Charline of Payne Springs, Jeff Mercer of Arlington, and Joseph Harris and wife, Mary of Athens; granddaughters, Jenipher Watson and husband, Wayne of Ripley, Tenn., Tiffany Harris of Euless and Cassie Harris of Arlington; brother, Harold Swaffar and wife, Vivian of Midlothian; sister, Patricia Landers and husband, Jim of Eustace; six great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
