Obituary

Linda B. Dagley NORFOLK - Linda B. Dagley, 71, passed away Sept. 15, 2011.

Linda was a dedicated Democrat who talked the talk and walked the walk. She got involved in politics when President Bill Clinton first ran for office. During her political volunteer career, Linda worked on many campaigns for individuals such as U.S. senators James Webb and Mark Warner, delegates Kenny Alexander and Paula Miller, Senator Ralph Northam, Mayor Paul Fraim, Terry McAuliffe and Creigh Deeds. She was a strong early supporter of Hillary Clinton for President. The Norfolk Democratic Committee was blessed to have Linda's involvement. She worked on a variety of committees such as fundraising, events, and precincts. Linda worked tirelessly as the 89th House District Chair for Delegate Kenny Alexander. She was responsible for developing volunteers for all his precincts as well as working with the Delegate at events throughout the 89th District. As Membership chair she worked to increase the number of Democrats on the Committee. Linda served with distinction on the State Democratic Party Central Committee, serving as a Norfolk representative on the Third Congressional District Democratic Committee.

The role of women in politics was important to Linda as she was a founding member of The Farm Team, a statewide organization committed to recruiting and running women for elected office. Linda was a current member of its advisory committee. The Farm Team is grateful for Linda's support, passionate dedication and unshakeable devotion to the Democratic Party and its enduring principles.

Linda was a loyal friend, strong woman, and one who will leave an indelible mark on the many people whose lives she touched. She will be missed by her family and friends. Survivors include her husband, Glenn Dagley (Norfolk); son, James McHadden (Greenville, N.C.); daughters, Cathy Woodfall (Virginia Beach) and Maureen Short (Portsmouth); and a host of relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Virginia Arts Festival, 440 Bank St., Norfolk. In lieu of flowers, Linda requested contributions be given in her name to Planned Parenthood of Southeastern Virginia, 515 Newtown Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23462. Condolences may be offered at www.metropolitanfuneralservice.com.

Linda was adopted by Maude and Alonza "Lon" Barnes. Their memorials are
Lon Barnes and Maude DeLoach Barnes

Aunt Maude was the eldest sister of my G-Grandmother, Willi Jo DeLoach Moody

Linda was the natural daughter of Marie Louise Moody, who was the great niece of Aunt Maude. Aunt Louise was a younger sister of Dorothy Moody Henry, my grandmother.

Linda's natural mother was a wild one. One evening, my grandparents went looking for her and Linda. They found Linda in a car crying and Aunt Louise inside a "juke joint". She was drinking. My grandparents took Linda home with them. The next morning, Aunt Louise came by and told them they could have her and that she wouldn't be back for her. So, Linda was raised by my grandparents, Pearlie and Dorothy Henry, from a tiny baby until the beginning of 3rd grade. At that time is when Aunt Maude basically showed up at my grandparents home, had adoption papers and her lawyer, and took Linda. This almost killed my grandparents as she had been raised as their very own, along with my mother and uncles.

It has taken me many years to find Linda. Through the wonder of the internet, I found her sister Juanita's obituary and FAG memorial. Juanita was also adopted by Aunt Maude & Uncle Lon. Juanita was the natural child of one of Aunt Maude's sister's, Edna Lee DeLoach Anderson. Juanita's obituary listed Linda as her sister. I began searching and found Linda's obituary, the one above. I was able to call and speak with her husband, who was very cordial and very nice, and he confirmed that this was the Linda I had been looking for for so long. I wish I could have known her and I wish I could have let her know that she was never forgotten by this part of her family. May she rest in sweet peace.
