Her father and mother went to a neighbors ranch to pick kafir corn and the kids were left at home. They forgot to shut the chickens in and when they went out to shut them up. It was dark so they took the gun along, all cocked. One of them accidentally pulled the trigger and shot Mona, eight years old, through the entrails. It was a shotgun about six feet away and it just tore her stomach all up. They thought in the early days that putting flour on you would stop the bleeding, so they dumped about twenty-five pounds of flour in the hole. That kept her alive for a couple of hours. Her headstone is the only marble headstone in Ash Meadows. George Ishmael Brought it in and put it on her grave. She was buried in Ash Medows .
She was originally burried at Ash Medows but was moved Beatty and reburried in 1999.
