William J. (John) Coulbourne, 90 of Milton, passed away on Friday, May 7, 2010 at home.

Mr. Coulbourne was predeceased by his wife, Grace Hitchens Coulbourne, on October 21, 2001 and by his parents, William L. Coulbourne and Elizabeth J. Coulbourne and his sister, Frances Parvis.

Mr. Coulbourne attended school in Houston and Milford, and Brown Vocational High School in Wilmington. He worked for the DuPont Company in Seaford beginning in March of 1940. He was called into military service in September of 1942 for 38 months, 28 months overseas (Africa, Italy and Germany) and participated in five major battles and one invasion with the 36th Division in France as military police with the 759th MP Battalion. He returned home in November 1945 and returned to the DuPont Company until July 1981.

He was a Past Master of Endeavor Lodge #17 in Milton in 1985, a member of the Grand Staff in 1990 and 1991, a volunteer Fire Fighter for 70 years (serving in Houston and Milton), life member of Milton VFW, member of Henlopen Elks 2540, member of American Legion Post #28, member of AmVets Lodge #2 and a member of Goshen U.M. Church in Milton.

Mr. Coulbourne is survived by five children and their spouses, Gary and Catherine Coulbourne, of Milford, James and Peggy Coulbourne of Milton, William and Peggy Coulbourne of Felton, Robert and Bonnie Coulbourne of Milton and Susan and Bill Goins of Georgetown. Mr. Coulbourne is also survived by ten grandchildren, Kelly Nichols, Robert Coulbourne and William L. Coulbourne, Jr., of Milton, Kimberly Coulbourne of Milford, Jennifer Santini, Michael Goins and Matthew Goins of Georgetown, Ellen Hall of Dover, Dawn Stevens of Delmar and Bucky Stevens of Statesville, N.C. He is also survived by 13 great-grandchildren, Tyler, Madison, Logan Nichols of Milton, Marina and Lucas Santini of Georgetown, Shane, Connor, Ryan, Zane and Finn Coulbourne of Milton and Buxton, Ali and Greyson Stevens. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Rosemarie Hitchens of Ridley Park, Pa., as well as four nieces and two nephews.

My hubby also worked for Dupont and was in Air Force during Vietnam and went back to work for Dupont in Tennessee.Rest in Peace William
