From the Times Journal newspaper dated June 14, 1990.
A long time dispute between two Russell County men ended in a crowded parking lot slaying police said.
Joe Biggerstaff, 21, of Russell Springs, was shot and killed while sitting in a car at Key Village Shopping Center, authorities said.
A Dunville man, Larry Lee Copley, 35, was arrested and charged with Biggerstaff's death, after almost seven hours of questioning by police.
Police said Biggerstaff was reportedly sitting in a car near L.A. Joe's Department Store, at the Key Village, a popular evening hangout for local teenagers.
Several witnesses apparently saw Copley's vehicle pull near Biggerstaff's car.
Authorities at the scene said Copley apparently stopped his car and walked over to talk with Biggerstaff.
Police said an argument began, and alleged threats led to gunfire.
Reports said Copley pulled a gun and fired twice into Biggerstaff's car, with both bullets striking Biggerstaff in the head, authorities said.
Copley reportedly remained at the scene and handed his gun to police when they arrived.
A uniform citation filed by Kentucky State Police Detective Mitch Bailey said Copley was arrested for murder.
