Wife of James Monroe Troxel. Daughter of William S. McKee and Elizabeth Killgore

Chariton, Iowa
Thursday, February 19, 1914

Mrs. J. M. Troxel died at her home in Humeston, Iowa, Sunday afternoon at two o'clock, after an illness of five months.

The funeral services were held at the home yesterday afternoon at one o'clock, conducted by Rev. R. Burton Shepard, pastor of the M. E. Church, assisted by Rev. Clinton M. Thomas, pastor of the Christian Church. The floral tributes were typical of her life of love and purity.

Three sons-in-law, W. P. Taylor, G. D. Brewer, and W. C. Miller, and three grandsons, Roy, Cleda and James Taylor, acted as pallbearers. Burial was made in the Derby cemetery. The following obituary was furnished by the family:

Dorcas McKee was born in Venango county, Pennsylvania, July 26, 1847, and passed away at her home in Humeston, Iowa, February 15, 1914, aged sixty-six years, six months and twenty days. She came to Iowa with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. S. McKee, in 1855.

She was united in marriage to J. M. Troxel on December 12, 1867. This union was blessed with five daughters and one son. One daughter, Mrs. W. P. Taylor, preceded her to the great beyond. Those surviving, besides the husband are: Mrs. H. A. Everett, Palestine, Tex.; Mrs. G. D. Brewer, Linneus, Mo.; Mrs. W. C. Miller and Miss Ethel Troxel, Humeston, Iowa; Dr. B. M. Troxel, Ridgeway, Mo.

She is also survived by two sisters: Mrs. Jane McDonald, Fairfield, Iowa; Mrs. Mary Walker, Jamesport, Mo., and a brother, David E. McKee, Port Angeles, Wash. Twelve grandchildren and a host of friends mourn her loss.

She united with the M. E. church in early youth and lived a constant and devoted Christian life. It is hard to give her up, but she is at rest, her labors are ended.
