Alton- William Francis Ambrose, 67, died at 2:48 p.m. Thursday, March 06, 1997, at his home after a short illness.
Born Dec. 21, 1929, in Chesterfield, Il, he was the son of the late Wilbert Francis and Edith Esther (Davis) Fox Ambrose.
A U.S. Airforce Veteran, he served in World War II. He was a decorator at Owens-Illinois Glass for 32 years and also at Little Sisters of the Poor as a security guard for ten years, retiring Jan. 1, 1997. He attended Abudant Life Christian Center.
He married the former Beulah Ann Stamm, Oct. 23, 1953, at the East Alton United Methodist Church. She survives.
Also surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Jeffry Bowman of Cottage Hills;a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Elizabeth Ambrose of Carlinville; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Maribell Clemmer of Louden, Tennessee; and a brother, Richard Ambrose of Edgerton, Wis.
He was preceded in death by a son, Duane Ambrose, and a brother, Robert Lee Ambrose.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Elias Smith Funeral Home in Alton where services will be at 11 a.m. Monday. Pastor Sam Henning will officiate.
Burial will be in Upper Alton Cemetery (formerly Oakwood).
Memorials may be made to Abundant Life Christian Center.
