Miss DeAlva E. Fountain, age 81 of Mt. Vernon, died Wednesday, October 24, 2012 in Oxley Park Health and Rehabilitation in Lyons after a brief illness. She was a lifelong resident of Mt. Vernon, was employed at Brewton-Parker College and was a sitter for the elderly for many years. She was an avid embroider and in 2007, Miss Fountain won Best of Show in the quilt competition hosted by the Georgia Mountain Fair. Her winning quilt was a series of biblical scenes from both the Old and New Testament. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cannie Buford Fountain and Martha Ann Millie Palmer Fountain and a brother, James David Fountain.

Miss Fountain is survived by four sisters, Helen McArthur of the Long Pond Community, Anita "Ludy" Fountain Thompson and husband James Earl, Betty Jo Fountain, and June Fountain; a sister-in-law, Mildred Padgett Fountain all of Mt. Vernon; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Friday, October 26th at 3:00 pm in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Reverend C.B. Easterlin officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Vernon City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 30 East 33rd St., New York, NY 10016 or the American Cancer Society, 515 Demark St. #500, Statesboro, GA 30458.
