THE CHILDREN'S HOME of Cincinnati, Ohio (Letter dated Noveber 28, 1984)
According to our records of July 19, 1911 - August 18, 1911, Magarite (born May 8, 1899), Frank (born Otober 31, 1900), and Pearl (born August 23, 1903) Ford were admitted to The Children's Home on July 19 and discharged on August 18, 1911.
The Children's mother, Iva, had died 2 1/2 years previously in Denver, Colorado. Their father, Frank E. Ford, had remarried and his current wife also had children. The stepmother, Carrie O'Donnel Ford, had sent the children from Denver to Cincinnati as she felt she could not care for them. George Hall of Cincinnati was Iva's brother, and the new Mrs. Ford hoped that he would care for the children, though he could not.
The record mentions that Clarence remained with his father in Denver. Mr. Ford had been the proprietor of the "Blind Tiger," a "cafe and poolhouse."
According to our ecords the children had been in the Denver Orphan's Home preceding and after Iva's death.
On August 18, 1911, the Juvenile Court committed the children to the Home of Refuge.
There is no longer a Home of Refuge in Cincinnati, and I am not aware of what it was. Perhaps the Hamilton County Juvenile Court (222 East Central Parkway. Cincinnati, Ohio 45202) could provide you with more information.
