Dorothy was the third daughter born to Martin Reams and Lydia Simpkins Reams.

She had four sisters, Margaret, Susan, Emeline and Martha; and three brothers, Charles, McCallan and William.

Dorothy never married, and devoted her life to taking care of her father after her mother died.

From the Preston Times, February 13, 1901 -

After an illness of about a year, Dorothy, daughter of Martin Ream, Esq., died at the home of her father in this village, Feb. 8, at 8 p.m., of consumption, aged 40 years, 11 months and 8 days.
Deceased was born on a farm in Carimona township, one mile west of this village, and grew into womanhood in the immediate vicinity. She was of gentle, home loving disposition and since the death of her mother several years ago had been her father's housekeeper.
She had been for many years a member of the Presbyterian church and lived a consistent christian life.
Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church on Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock, Revs. Corkey and Bailey officiating, and the remains were interred beside those of her mother in the cemetery south of town.
Dorothy Ream was a good woman and will long be sadly missed by all who knew her.
