|Birth: ||Nov. 2, 1886|
|Death: ||Apr. 26, 1907|
Born in Tung-Chow (now Nantong), China, son of Dr. Elijah E. DeVault and his wife, missionaries.
His mother, widowed twice of missionaries (in China, Brazil), came to Fredericksburg, VA. with her children c. 1903.
In 1906 Edgar became a life insurance salesman in Fredericksburg for Metropolitan Life Insurance.
He became an apparent drowning victim, just off the City dock, such fact supported by a jury. Metropolitan Life Insurance contended he was a habitual drinker and that his drowning was actually a suicide.
[Supreme Court of Appeals of Virginia, Volume 109].
That Supreme Court affirmed the jury's finding of drowning.
