Alice Ross Anderson, 85, of Columbus, GA died Sunday, June 1, 2008 at St. Francis Hospital. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 PM Thursday, June 5, 2008 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church. The Reverend Ruth Cummings will officiate. Interment will follow in the church columbarium. The family will receive friends in the All Saints Hall following the service, according to McMullen Funeral Home, 3874 Gentian Blvd., Columbus. Mrs. Anderson was born in Evanston, IL on October 28, 1922. She was the daughter of the late William Andrew and Mary Jane Baldwin Ross. She was a graduate of Northwestern University where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. For 33 years, Mrs. Anderson was a kindergarten and music teacher at Trinity School which became Brookstone School. She retired in 1985. In addition to her love of teaching, Mrs. Anderson was passionate for music and the performing arts, especially the theatre. She was a seasoned performer with Columbus Little Theatre and the Springer Theatre under the direction of the late Charles Jones. Her final performance, at age 80, was in the show "Dazzle" written for the dedication of the historic A.C. Hobbs, Jr. Performing Arts Center at Wynnton Arts Academy. Through the years, Alice Anderson was a well known face on many local commercials including Schomburg's and The Cottage Kitchen. Mrs. Anderson was on the board of St. Thomas Day School and worked faithfully with the Wynnton Neighborhood Network Food Bank. She was an active member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church where she sang in the choir for many years. Until the time of her death, she was proud to be a member of the St. Thomas Bell Choir. She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband of 52 years, Donald Warren Anderson and a sister, Betty Kellin. Mrs. Anderson is survived by her daughter, Karen Anderson Russell (Alton) of Columbus; a son, Warren Fredrick Anderson (Gigi) of Salem, AL; five grandchildren, Periann Russell Rubino (Matt), Gay Russell Brennan (Mike), Chance Russell (Terri), Rann Russell (Kristin) and Laci Anderson; three great grandchildren, Julianna Russell, Thomas Russell and Abigail Brennan; three nieces and two nephews.
