My great great grandfather was Isham T. Mathis. He was born February 6, 1829 in Gwinett County, Georgia. He entered the service on May 16, 1862 when he traveled to Athens, Georgia and enlisted as a Private. He died of disease on January 7, 1863 in a field hospital at Tunnel Hill Georgia. After the war his remains were removed and placed in one of many graves that are marked as unknown in the Marietta Confederate Cemetery in Marietta, Georgia.
