Alma W. Bare, 87, passed away Monday, March 4, 2013. Alma was born in Marion, VA and was a former resident of Roanoke, VA before moving to the Peninsula in 1950. She was employed with First National Bank for 10 years.
She was a member and past president of the Riverside Hospital Auxiliary for 20 years, and was a member of Menchville Baptist Church and Sunday School Teacher with the Hope Sunday School Class for 38 years.
Alma was preceded in death by her sisters Betty Crane and Edna Ward.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Meredith B. Bare, Jr; a son Barry Leffler and his wife Linda of Toano; a daughter Linda Simpkins and her husband Jerry of Richmond; five grandchildren Bradley Leffler and his wife Michelle, Amy Gallagher and her husband James, Leslie Dobson and her husband Kevin, Michael Kellner and Brian Kellner and his wife Courtney; ten great-grandchildren; and two nieces, Shirley Persinger and Betty Bowden.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at Menchville Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Weston officiating. Interment will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 7:30 pm on Wednesday, March 6, at Amory Funeral Home, Grafton.
