Rev Clint Adkins Oakley

REVEREND CLINT ADKINS OAKLEY, 83, passed into the presence of our Lord Jesus on Wednesday, October 31, 2007. He was the son of Clint Adkins Oakley and Lenora Bell Meek. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was a Mason and member of Berclair Lodge #771. He was a graduate of the University of Memphis and Southern Baptist Seminary in Louisville, KY. Rev. Oakley pastored several churches in Indiana, Tennessee and Florida. He was instrumental in helping start a self-help drug treatment center in Miami. He served as Chaplain at the VA Hospital in Memphis, and after retiring from Mt. Terrace Baptist Church in Memphis, he served as interim pastor in several churches in Memphis, and was currently the interim Pastor at West Frayser Baptist Church. He served on the Executive Board and other boards of the Tennessee Baptist Convention. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Mildred Doyle, Sue Cook and Catherine Cohen; and brothers W. B. and Thomas Oakley. He recently lost his wife of 60 years, Betty Jean Oakley. He is survived by his sons, Clint Ansley Oakley of Miami and James Michael Oakley of Memphis, and his brother, F. M. Oakley of Pekin, IL. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, November 3 at Memphis Funeral Home Germantown Parkway Chapel, with burial in Memory Hill Gardens. Visitation will be Friday from 5-8 p. m. at the funeral home. He was known and respected for his love and devotion to his Lord and to the churches he served.
