SAMUEL SLAY
Samuel Dennie Slay, 71,of Metz died Friday (May 10, 2002) at Fairmont General Hospital.
He was born March 11, 1931 in Metz son of the late Sheldon and Ruth Hawkinberry Slay.
He was a member of the AF&AM Masonic Lodge #31 in Mannington, Scottish Rite, Eastern Star Augusta Chapter No. 6, Mannington Moose Lodge No. 1344, Metz Volunteer Fire Department and the First Century Church at Metz. He served as president to the Crime Watch Organization at Metz and was the founder of the Metz Barbell Club. He retired from Martinkea Mine and was currently a transportation officer for the Marion County Sheriff's Department. Mr. Slay was a former professional wrestler. He wrestled under the name of Aldolph Von Hess and was the 1962 World Tag Team Champion.
He is survived by his wife. Barbara K. Thomas Slay; one son and daughter-in-law, Joseph Sheldon and Georgeanne Slay of Old Bridge, N.J.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Nieta and Stan Lambert of Metz, Deborah and Eric Logan of Sayreville, N.J., and LeeAnn and Joseph Simms of Elkridge, Md.
Friends may call at the Master Funeral Home in Mannington today from 2-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with Pastor Stan Lambert and the Rev. Bill Coon officiating. Burial will follow at the Mannington Memorial Park Cemetery. The AF&AM Lodge #31 of Mannington will conduct a service at the graveside.
