Birth: 1765
Lancaster County
Pennsylvania, USA
Death: Jun. 18, 1821
Washington County
Virginia, USA

John was the son of Alexander and Charaty Rosenbaum. He grew to manhood in Pennsylvania and then migrated south into Virginia/North Carolina area. His parents and several other families were on this journey.

He married and settled in Washington County, VA. The first deed to him was dated 18 Apr 1791, when he bought 400 acres of land from John McNutt for 130 pounds of current Virginia money. (Deed BK I, pg.203)

He was listed on both personal and land tax lists every year until his death. John aquired a great deal of real estate and personal property, leaving a large estate.

He died intestate and the estate was not settled until 1826.

Inventory of the estate is listed in: WILL Bk 5, p 24-25 and p 282-283 recorded in courthouse at Abingdon, VA. Catherine, John & Jacob Rosenbaum were administrators. "Agree to the order to us directed we have viewed and appriased the estate of John Rosenbalm deceased to the best of our judgment." Given under our hands this 6th Sept. 1821. At a court held for Washington County the 18th day of September 1821. This inventory and appraisement of the estate of John Rosenbalm deceased was returned to court and ordered to be recorded. Teste. Jacob Lynch D.C. Pursuant to an order of the Court of Washington County dated 22nd day of March 1826, I have examined the accounts of Catharine, John & Jacob Rosenbam, admx & adminrs of John Rosenbam dec'd with the said Estate and find them to stand as above stated: leaving in the hands of the admx & admrs the Sum of $1199.70 for distribution among the heirs according to the law. In the settlement I charged to the estate of John Rosenbam dec'd with the amount which went into the estates hands of the estate of George Rosenbam, dec'd, his Son: -- and with interest on the amount -- considering it proper to make persons account for interest where proper to make persons account for interest where they intermeddle in states without legal authority, however good their intentions may appear to be. I think the allowence of $150 to the admx & admrs for their trouble about the estate reasonable. All which is respectfulle, reported this 15 May 1826. D. Campbell MC At a court held for Washington County the 20th day of June 1826, This Settlement of the estate of John Rosenbam deceased was returned tocourt by the commissioner examined and allowed and ordered to be recorded.
