MRS. WM. ARENDELL
Bertha Edmonson, daughter of T. A. and Sarah Peak Edmonson, was born March 12, 1871, near Winchester, Ill., where she grew to womanhood. At the age of fourteen she was converted to the Christian faith and united with the Baptist church of Manchester of which she has been a faithful adherent these many years, having taught the "Room-for-you" class for a number of years and given of her time and means towards the support of the church.
In 1895 on July 31, she was united in marriage to Wm. Arendell of Manchester. In 1896 she removed her mem.....their farm just west of Manchester for several years. Later, about 1912, they retired from the farm and moved into Manchester. Here Mr. Arendell passed away July 1, 1937. Mrs. Arendell loved her home and always enjoyed the visits of her many friends. She leaves to mourn her passing, one brother, L. A. Edmonson, of Winchester, Ill., and several nieces and nephews and many sympathizing friends.
(This poem was written by Mrs. Arendell for this occasion.) I am so very lonely---- My heart is so very sad When my Master calls me home I will be so happy and glad.
Will, will be there to meet me,
On yonder beautiful shore;
I feel that he will know me,
And, we will part no more.
My heart is so heavy and very sad
I know I have made many mistakes,
But I have done my best
And when the final summons comes,
I will lay down life's burdens and rest.
A large number of relatives and friends attended the funeral services of Mrs. William Arendell held in the Manchester Baptist church Monday afternoon. Rev. R. V. Wright of Winchester officiated. Mrs. Claude Thomas and Rev. Wright sang three beautiful numbers "The Old Rugged Cross," "In the Land Where they Never Grow Old," and "Beautiful Garden of Prayer." Mrs. Elsie Bean was accompanist. Those caring for the beautiful floral tributes were Mrs. W. F. Prather, Mrs. Guy Brown, Miss Nellie Duncan and Miss Ollie Crow. The casket bearers were W. F. Prather, H. O. Hudson, Carey Andras, Claude Thomas, C. S. Heaton and Gilbert Evans. Interment was in the Manchester cemetery.
