Pearl Anna Fresh, 100, of Arkansas City, died Sunday (November 2, 2008) at the Sterling House of Arkansas City. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Thursday (November 6, 2008) at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home of Arkansas City. Burial will follow in the Parker Cemetery. Pastor Norman Reeves will officiate.
Pearl was born June 19, 1908 in Cowley County to James Wyatt and Laura Mae (Henry) Shipp. She was reared and educated in Arkansas City. At age 17 Pearl became chief cook and bottle washer and caregiver for four younger siblings after the death of her mother She married Albert Guy Fresh on October 25, 1938 in Wichita. The couple made their home on a farm northeast of Silverdale. She was a homemaker and longtime member of the Silverdale Community Church and later the First Baptist Church of Arkansas City. Survivors include a son Loren and his wife Colleen Fresh of Mooresville, North Carolina; a daughter Leta and her husband George Sherwood of Winfield; grandchildren Brandon and his wife Sheri Fresh, Justin and wife Leslie Brazle, Jayna and husband Dave Bertholf; great-grandchildren Garret and Kristiana Fresh, Zane and Cutter Brazle, Samuel, Abby and Elly Bertholf, and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years Albert, parents, brothers James, Charles, Wyatt and Owen Shipp; sisters Ruby Eagan, Wilma Perry and Opal Oller.
A memorial has been established with Sterling House of Arkansas City. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
