Mr. Henry George "Heinie" Hahn, 104, of McPherson, passed away at 10:15 a.m., Friday, May 2nd, 2008 while in the company of family members at Riverside Village, Wichita, Kansas.Henry G. Hahn, the son of William "Will" and Katherine Galliardt Hahn, was born August 23, 1903 in Holyrood, Kansas. He was the eldest of 6 children born to this union, three sons and three daughters. .
Henry attended and graduated from the Inman, Kansas schools. He then attended McPherson College, where he received his Bachelor's Degree. In 1942, he earned his Master's Degree in Industrial Arts from Pittsburg State College, Pittsburg, Kansas.
On July 24, 1929, Henry was united in marriage to Bernice Engdahl at McPherson, Kansas. The young couple established their first home in Scandia, Kansas. This union was blessed with the birth of a daughter, Lois. Henry coached and taught in high schools in Marquette, Scandia, and Ellsworth, Kansas and in McPherson High School from 1959 until his retirement in 1971. Henry and Bernice were members of the Trinity Lutheran Church, McPherson, Kansas.
Henry was a volunteer at Trinity Lutheran Church and the Senior Center in McPherson, Kansas for many years. He was also a member of the Lions Club and the Elks Lodge #502 B.P.O.E. both of McPherson, Kansas, the McPherson Teachers Association and the Kansas Teachers Association.
The family was deeply saddened by the death of Bernice on September 6, 1991. Henry and Bernice shared 62 years of marriage together.
Henry was a devoted Christian, loving and caring father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, teacher, and friend. His wise counsel, gentle guidance and gracious smile will be missed by those who knew and loved him. Henry was very proud of his daughter and always wanted the best for her. He was especially fond of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren always looking forward to their visits and times they would share together.
On May 2, 2008, Henry entered into eternal rest, at the age of one hundred and four years, eight months and nine days. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Bernice; two brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include; daughter Lois Garrelts and husband Bill of Wichita, Kansas; three grandchildren, Dr. James Garrelts and wife Mary of Wichita, Kansas, Susan Warren of Wichita, Kansas and Kristen Rotramel and husband Lt. Col. Don of Chester, Virginia; seven great-grandchildren, Jeffrey Garrelts of Wichita, Kansas, Scott Garrelts and wife Emily of Wichita, Kansas, Brittany Garrelts of Wichita, Kansas, Jonathan Warren of Wichita, Kansas, Jennifer Warren of Wichita, Kansas Danielle Rotramel of Chester, Virginia, and Ryan Rotramel of Chester, Virginia; one great-great-grandchild on the way, other relatives and a host of friends.
Memorial service for Henry will be held Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at 2:30 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, McPherson, Kansas with Reverend Harry Grinstad Pastor officiating.
Final resting place will be the McPherson Cemetery, McPherson, Kansas.
