Muriel was born January 3, 1908, in Leoti, Kansas, to Ernest Willard and Ora Ola (Spear) Fouts.
Muriel attended high school in Minneapolis and attended a private junior college for women in Sulphur Springs, Arkansas. After junior college, she took a position teaching music in the Liberal and Hugoton areas.
Muriel returned to Minneapolis and opened her own music school above Horner Bakery, but after five years, she decided it was time to finish her formal education.
At age 25, Muriel entered Eastman College in Rochester, New York. She had intended to return to Minneapolis but ended up staying and teaching music in the Rochester schools for over 20 years.
Muriel spent the next 20 years in Charlottesville, Virginia, building her dream home and owning her own music school.
In 1973, Muriel returned back to Minneapolis and resided where she gave numerous music lessons out of her home.
She was preceded in death by her brother, E. Willard Fouts.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Highland Cemetery, Minneapolis, Kansas, with the Rev. Helen Martin officiating.
