James and his wife Dottie along with their son Thomas, arrived in Amberg, Wisconsin in 1921 from South Dakota. Also joining them were Dottie's parents Mr and Mrs L. St. John.
While in South Dakota, James farmed and also was employed as a salesman for Skidmore Land Company and became acquainted with the land around Amberg. Eventually, he bought land on the Belle Crossing Road, where they resided until their deaths. While improving the farm in Amberg, he worked at the Ford Plant in Iron Mountain, Michigan and lived in Quinnesec during the week and spent the weekends in Amberg until 1931 when they stayed in Amberg permanently.
James also worked for 20 years as County Committeeman for the Federal Farm Program.
Their son Thomas married Alida Bolander; and they had a son Raymond.
