WAYNESBORO -- Vallie Porter "V.P." Level Jr., 86, of Waynesboro died Wednesday, June 21, 2006, at Avante in Waynesboro.

He moved to Martinsville in 1968 and co-founded American Standard Homes.

He was born Nov. 6, 1919, in Weyers Cave to Vallie Porter Leavel Sr. and "Nana" Saufley Leavel. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Ann Wilson; and two sisters, Louise Hiner and Arnesa Whitlock.

He graduated from Augusta Military Academy in 1939. He served in the Army with the 94th Infantry Division in World War II and was awarded the silver star. In the Korean conflict, he served with the 2nd Chemical Mortar Battalion. He was a lifetime member of the Elks of Staunton.
