Mr. Ellis, a retired Baptist minister and missionary of Jackson County, was born in Himrods, N.Y., and obtained a degree from Hillsdale College, Hillsdale, Mich. Forty-five years ago he became a citizen of Jackson County.

Helped Get Aid
He was instrumental in obtaining congressional aid for deepening the Pascagoula harbor to permit sea-going vessels to dock there for the first time. He was commercial secretary in the port and a leader in the movement to have the name of the town changed from Scranton to Pascagoula.
Mr. Ellis served several months as pastor of the First Baptist Church in Pascagoula, donating his entire salary for their first parsonage. His own preference in religious work was for missionary and country church work.
