Man Stricken At Gulfport Home
George Q. Barnes, 67, of 2024 47th Ave., Gulfport, collapsed at his home about 6 am today and was pronounced dead on arrival at Memorial Hospital in Gulfport. An Inquest jury attributed death to natural causes.
Mr. Barnes had reportedly been in good health. A neighbor, Joseph P. Sewell, of 2043 47th Ave., heard Mrs. Barnes scream. He ran to the Barnes home and called an ambulance.
Mr. Barnes was a retired farmer and veteran of World War I. He was born Feb 2, 1896, in Vancleave.
Besides his widow, Mrs. Ruth T. Barnes, survivors include a stepson, Robert Lampkin of Gulfport; three brothers, Obie and Ernest Barnes of Gulfport, and Arthur Barnes of Pensacola, Fla.; and one sister, Mrs. Maggie Erousbar [Eurissa] of New Orleans, LA.
The funeral service will be held 3:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the Lang Funeral Home Chapel in Gulfport. The Rev Robert E. Varnadore, pastor of the First Congregational Methodist Church of Gulfport will officiate. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 6 o'clock tonight.
The inquest was empaneled at Lang Funeral Home by beat two justice of the peace Marion P. Cox acting Harrison County coroner.
Inquest jurors, were Virgil Prather, George Douglas, Alvin Dearman, Malcolm Lenoir, Marie Cox and George Baygents. Baliff was Police Sgt. T.F. Buckley.

G. Q. Barnes Rites
The funeral service for George Q. Barnes, 67, who died Friday, was held Saturday afternoon at Lang Funeral Home chapel in Gulfport with the Rev Robert E. Varnadore, pastor of the First Congregational Methodist Church in Gulfport officiating. Jim Anderson, organist, played as the prelude, Nearer My God To Thee and Rock Of Ages and as the postlude, Abide With Me. He accompanied Jimmy Cranford who sang Precious Memories.
Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery with Richard L. Barnes, Larry D. Barnes, Walter E. Ladnier, Bill J. Gartman, Walter Barnes and Wallace Barnes as pallbearers.
