1821 – The legislature appointed a committee composed of Valentine Delmas, John B. Boudreaux, William Cates, George Davis, Sterling Dupree, MALCOLM BLACK and Peter Fairley, Jr. whose duty it was to "select a permanent seat of justice,: and specified that until this was done the court records were to remain at "the old courthouse," wherever that may have been.

1822 – The court records were ordered to be moved to the "new courthouse at Brewer's Bluff." This was the county seat for at least four years.
