Lorraine Kennebeck, 76, of Carroll, died Monday,
April 7, 2014 at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.

She was born on September 30, 1937 the daughter of Anton “Tony” and Bertha Kraus Broich. She was the eighth of nine children born to this union. She lived her entire life in Carroll. She was devoted to the love and happiness of her children Randy and Donna Kennebeck, Roxanne and Kim Redling; her grandchildren, Matt and Amanda Redling, Lanette and Juan Reyes, Tony and Haley Redling, John Kennebeck, and Jess Vander Linden, Joe Kennebeck; her great granddaughters, Adrianna Wallace, Isabel Reyes, and Lexi Redling.

Lorraine worked as a bookkeeper for many years; then into her retirement as a housekeeper until her decline in health in January 2014. She enjoyed cooking and baking, then sharing her home-made candies, baked goods, and mixes with others in the community. She loved public service and the opportunity it brought to meet and visit with people. Lorraine donated many hours to the local nursing homes. She found much joy in giving to others. This was evidenced by her many, many friends.

Lorraine was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church and found comfort in her strong faith. From her onset of illness in January 2014 until her death she was surrounded and cared for by her family and her close circle of friends. Although she will be missed by many, she will live on forever in our hearts.

Living family members include: her children: Randy Kennebeck and his wife Donna of Des Moines, and Roxanne Redling and her husband Kim of Gilbert; grandchildren: Lanette (Juan) Reyes of Des Moines, John Kennebeck and special friend Jessica Vander Linden of Des Moines, and Joe Kennebeck of Des Moines, Matthew (Amanda) Redling of Ankeny, and Anton “Tony” (Haley) Redling of Ames; great-grandchildren: Adrianna Wallace, Isabel Reyes, and Lexi Redling; her sisters: Addeline (Bob) Dameron of Walnut Creek, Calif., Irene (George) Koitham of Carroll, Lynette (Al) Lehrter of Carroll, and Elaine (Bob) Fleskes of Annandale, Minnesota; her-in-laws: Millie Broich of Carroll, Lois Broich of Omaha, Neb., and Leonard Fischer of Carroll.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Anton and Bertha Broich, siblings: Raymond Broich, Louis Broich, Rosie Long, Lucille Fischer, as well as her special companion Joe Heisterkamp.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr. Timothy Johnson.

Music will be by Barb McDermott and the Holy Spirit Choir. Gift Bearers will be Lorraine’s sisters: Addeline Dameron, Irene Koitham, Lynette Lehrter, and Elaine Fleskes. Eucharistic Minister will be Lynette Lehrter. Casket Bearers will be Lorraine’s Grandchildren: Matt Redling, Tony Redling, John Kennebeck, Joe Kennebeck, Jessica Vander Linden, Lanette Reyes, Amanda Redling, and Haley Farrington.

Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll.

Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home on Thursday after 4:30 p.m. where there will be a Rosary at 5 p.m. and a Christian Wake Service at 6:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be left at the funeral home or at the church to be directed to Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.
